The case with confidential information
We have been invited to recover information at home. Generally speaking the
case was the first and the unique one. Pretty girl - the wife of professional
photograph -has destroyed by chance the NTFS volume. She asked us to recover
the volume data right at home. The volume contained a lot of photos, but it
was prohibited for us to look them. 3 hours later the work has been completed
and the data recovered, but their content still remained unknown
The case with a label
One person has visited us to recover data. BIOS have stopped to recognize his
Fujitsu MPG hard disk drive. It was a general case for this disk drive series,
only somebody unstuck a label. We recovered the data successfully. The customer
arrived, looked the data - and remain satisfied (it was his secretary data).
He paid the job and took away the information.
Virus through the ICQ
The next day he phone and say, that it isn't his data. He found Outlook in the
recovered disk drive data instead of TheBat installed in every computer in his
office. Moreover, the disk drive contained the somebody else's documentation
We asked him to bring the disk drive once more. The man gave us
the disk drive we recovered data from. All our manager attacked the master with
shouts: "How could you make it!" The master quietly recovers data
once more and takes out of it the same data. Examine the disk drive once more,
the hardware is the same and it hasn't got any other information.
Only this moment the client remembered that we have nothing to do with it: we
worked with a material he brought. And he remembered that before us he gave
the hard disk drive to another service, and they could do nothing, but returning
returned the other drive by mistake (due to a missing label)

Once some customer has visited us and carried two hard disk drives. She's asked
us to recover data because the drives were from her home computer and she lived
far away and the trip to us was too long. Meeting client's wishes we decided
not to take away the drives to our workshop and to try to recover her data right
in our office, since the disk drives worked normally. We asked her to walk for

Wedge against wedge
Unfortunately, the case was not the simple one and the recover was not completed
yet. The customer decided to wait the result in any case. After all the process
continued another six hours! And she told us the story of the lost data.
Her son has learnt to use email and ICQ. The day before she came home and found
the ideal order at home. Everything was cleaned and washed - the obvious sign
of trouble. She discovered very soon that computer didn't work because of the
program her son has received through the ICQ. Antivirus software was switched
off - when switching on, the computer slowed down. Being experienced PC user
she decided to investigate the problem herself. She found that computer really
worked, but operating system didn't load and logical volumes disappeared. It
wasn't difficult to her to reformat hard disks drives and install software,
but the there were a lot of photos and daughter's files on them. Therefore several
days later she sat in our office and told her story
We've restored her data. She and our employee have gone home late at night,
for a long time they woke our security guard
Some customer has carried hard disk drive to our office. His Seagate Barracuda
IV emits a terrible din after switching on the power. The customer entreats
to help, because his company kept all account data on the drive. Diagnosis -
the motor have wedged. It is standard problem for this drive model.
Several days later he visited our office for his data and could go away for
a long time, since he was overfilled by sense of gratitude
Some customer flew from Nizhnevartovsk. The trip was not short - with change
in Irkutsk. He brought Quantum lct10 disk drive with hammering heads and asked
to recover data. We've recovered the data during a day and pass him at a CD-ROM.
Right away after payment he go away with thanks to airport.
Supporting musical business
Three days later our telephone ring. The same client from Nizhnevartovsk let
us know of his another visit in our office next morning. Our first thought:
is it possible some file is absent? In fact he has brought another Quantum lct10
disk drive with same problems. His park counts 50 computers and every of them
equipped by that disk drive model. We've recovered his data. More than year
passed and he did not appear so far. May be he has changed all disk drives on
Once we encountered IBM DTLA-307030 disk drive with knocking noises. Diagnostics
revealed that the problem is caused by trouble of magnetic head block. Carrying
out a surgical operation we changed disk drive heads and restored the data.
Fujitsu MPG based server
When we wrote the restored data on a new hard disk the data owner told us that
he play in some Moscow music group. The failed hard disk drive contained new
completed album of his group. They have settled all details with producers.
At the moment he had to hand over new album into the sound-recording company,
the disk drive has failed.
This hard disk drive was brought from Ryazan. Fujitsu MPG disk drive was installed
on the server and successfully worked during several years. The drive failed
just at the end of accounting period. Symptoms were not usual: the disk was
not determined by BIOS and his heads knocked. Our specialists have stated: the
failure of magnetic head block commutator.
To save the commutator it has been decided to unseal hermetic unit and change
the whole head block. Several days later the customer could receive his data
The case took place in Wednesday. Somebody phones and requests us urgently
to recover the notebook hard disk data. The job is difficult, but executable.
The only question is the time. But the customer had no time to wait. He asked
to speed up the recovery, since early Friday morning his plane would fly away
to Canaries. The hard disk drive is recovering up to Friday midday. The person
was very serious, and had got dual citizenship, house on Canaries, accounts
in Swiss and American banks. He was forced to fly away in his Canaries house
without any pin-code and password because all of them were in the failed disk
drive. A solution was found: 15 GB of the data from failed disk drive was uploaded
him through the Internet right to the Canaries. In this connection transfer
cost (in was not our task) was twice as expensive as our job.
Some Moscow bank administrator has carried two hard disk drives: IBM DTLA-307015
and Quantum lct15. He told they stayed on server in a software mirror. This
morning server stopped. The data was critical for the bank and he asked to carry
out the work urgently regardless of the cost. The data has been recovered entirely
during 2 hours.
When he has came once more for the data, our manager has asked him: "How
can you trust critical data in your bank to DTLA disk drive? You know how much
it is said about

on a poor-quality server
